Craven Wants to Hear Your Cameo Thoughts for Scream 4
Wes Craven took to his Twitter account today for a pressing question.
"My crew was wondering what my cameo should be in 'SCREAM 4'? Suggestions? No janitor, doctor or tourist."
Craven is presently in Michigan filming Scream 4 for Dimension Films. Give the recent production friction that's been rumored regarding the script, it's nice to see the director still having a bit of fun.
If you recall, Craven posed as a janitor sporting Freddy Krueger's sweater and fedora in the first Scream.
Tell him what you think he should do here.

Sean Patrick Flanery Talks 'Saw VII' 3D
Canadian distributor Maple Pictures posted a brief interview with Saw VII 3D star Sean Patrick Flanery who talks a bit about the way 3-D is utilized in the seventh film, while also revealing there is in fact another twist (what would a Saw film be without a twist?). Lionsgate/Maple Pictures begin Jigsaw's latest game against Paranormal Activity 2 on October 22. This should prove to be very interesting.
Saw actor Sean Patrick Flanery has revealed what fans can expect from the horror franchise's first foray into 3D.
"Three-dimensional blood and gore - yeah!" the actor laughed.
"I'm excited to see that, I think it'll be neat. It's not shot in 3D so that you can, per se, see blood coming directly at you."
He went on: "It's in 3D for the texture and the depth, for the architecture, to get a sense that you're in the scene but there's no 'we want to see blood coming at the lens' it's nothing like that. But I think we made a good movie."
He added: "I haven't seen the final product yet but the script was really cool, it really is."
In the seventh movie we see a deadly battle rage over the Jigsaw Killer's brutal legacy, while a group of survivors gather to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, played by Flanery.
The actor hinted fans should expect yet another unexpected twist.
"There is, I can't really reveal it, but there is," he laughed.

The 'Paranormal Activity 2' Teaser Trailer is LIVE, NOW!
Paramount Pictures has been quietly filming Paranormal Activity 2 - their super top secret sequel to Oren Peli's smash hit from last October - right under all of our noses. In fact, it's been so hush-hush that we weren't even sure they were going to make the October 22 date until tonight. How do we know? Below you'll find the official teaser trailer that premiered tonight on the film's official website. Yup, Katie Featherston returns! Get ready for battle as on October 22 the Kip Williams (Tod Williams) directed sequel opens against Lionsgate's Saw 3D. As for the lack of information surrounding the film, I personally love it. I'm as enthralled with the mystery as I am with J.J. Abrams' Super 8. I wish more often than not studios would show less -- becomes sometimes, less is more.

'Fright Night' Remake Will Be R-rated, So Says Evil Ed
Interview at the Chicago Tribune with Chris Mintz-Plasse, the nerdy star who will portray "Evil Ed" in DreamWorks' forthcoming Fright Night redo being helmed by Craig Gillespie. Having never seen the movie before being cast, he reveals that the studio is attempting to keep it similar to the original -- and R-rated! "It's totally a cheesy, campy 80's movie," said Mintz-Plasse during an appearance at Enclave on Friday, "and I loved it. They're trying to keep (the remake) very similar but give a different take on the cast. It'll be in 3D, so it's a little more Hollywood. And they're keeping it rated R, which is good." Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette, David Tennant, and Imogen Poots also star in the flick about a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires.
Still looking for a U.S. distributor is Paul Scheuring's The Experiment, which features Adrien Brody (Predators), Forest Whitaker (Repo Men), Elijah Wood (The Oxford Murders), Cam Gigandet (Pandorum, Unborn, Twilight), Clifton Collins Jr, and Maggie Grace (The Fog). Oliver Hirschbiegel's original, Das Experiment, centered on a group of ordinary men recruited to take on the roles of guards and prisoners as part of a research study and examined how the effects of assigned roles, power and control affected the participants.

Timothy Olyphant a Candidate for Ass-Kickin' Snake Plissken?

The MPAA announced today that they've given Lionsgate's The Last Exorcism a PG-13 rating "for disturbing violent content and terror, some sexual references and thematic material." Before you get your panties in a bunch, the MPAA typically gives an R when a film is loaded with vulgarities and violence. Is this bad thing? Probably not. You be the judge. After premiering at the LAFF this coming Thursday, the Eli Roth produced horror flick opens wide on August 27. After a career spent helping the devout through prayer and trickery, Reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) invites a film crew to document his final fraudulent days as an exorcist. Soon his faith is truly tested when a desperate plea from the father of a possessed girl (Ashley Bell) brings him face to face with the devil himself.

Some (kinda) interesting news if you're trying to piece together a potential storyline for Wes Craven's Scream IV as it's being reported by this blog that production will head to Woodworth Middle School in Dearborn, Michigan for a flashback sequence. The Middle School will act as a stand-in for a school used in an earlier Scream film. The school was chosen because "the design and brickwork closely matches a building that was featured in an earlier Scream film." Shooting begins soon in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette return to the franchise when Dimension releases it in theaters on April 15, 2011. Newcomers Lauren Graham, Anthony Anderson, Marielle Jaffe, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Lake Bell, and Nico Tortorella join the cast.

'Fright Night 3D' Getting October 2011 Release
DreamWorks has announced that they plan on releasing Craig Gillespie's Fright Night 3D in theaters on October 7, 2011. Penned by Marti Noxon, the redo will star Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette, David Tennant, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. The original Fright Night, written and directed by Tom Holland in 1985, was a horror comedy about a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires. The new version heads to Vegas and puts a darker spin on the head vamp, who will be played by Farrell. "He's a much more 'Jaws'-like vampire in the Amblin tradition," Noxon said.

TV: 'The Walking Dead' Creator Robert Kirkman on Adaptation
Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead comic and Executive Producer of the series, explains what it's like to bring his story to life and witness the end of the world (or at least the end of Atlanta) in the process. The interview can be found at AMC, while inside you'll find a short bit on what's different with the live-action adaptations starring Jon Bernthal, Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Michael Rooker, Chandler Riggs, Linds Edwards, Jim Coleman, Emma Bell, and IronE Singleton.
On what director Frank Darabont is bringing to the tale:
"Everyone is really trying to do good by the comic, and there are scenes that are straight out of it," Kirkman tells AMC, "I think that fans are just going to be thrilled. But at the same time, [Frank Darabont] is vastly improving the material. And there are things here and there that along the way I should have caught, but didn't. There's some amazing stuff he added for Morgan's character in the Pilot episode that's just not in the comic. It was back story, but he handles it in a way that just really brings it to the forefront. It's like, Morgan, that guy is an awesome character!"

Look to the Sky From 'Predators' Home Planet
From an International TV spot comes a new image from 20th Century Fox's Predators that features a look at the alien sky from the Predator's home planet. It's kinda cool and gets us out of the jungle a bit. Shot under the creative auspices of Robert Rodriguez, Nimrod Antal's Predators stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they've been brought together on an alien planet... as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers - mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members - human "predators" that are now being systematically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators. Fox will release on July 9.

'Crank' Duo Light Flames Under Columbia's Ass, Cage Returns as 'Ghost Rider'
Back in April there was all this talk about recasting Ghost Rider in order to do a rush-job on the franchise - unless they could get Marvel to give them an extension. A new report comes in via Heat Vision that Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are in early negotiations to direct Columbia's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the sequel to the studio's 2007 supernatural action movie starring the Marvel Comics character. The big news is that Nicolas Cage is in early negotiations to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze, a stunt motorcyclist who, in order to save the life of a loved one, makes a deal with the devil. His soul is twinned with that of a demon, and he becomes a flaming-skulled man driving a motorcycle from hell. Plot details are under wraps, and it is not known if any other character from the previous movie will return. The studio hopes to get principal photography going by late fall.

Learn Details on Who's Who in 'Scream IV'
Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Lake Bell, and Nico Tortorella open up the cast for Wes Craven's Scream IV, which begins filming this month in Ann Arbor, Michigan. While we already know the roles of Campbell, Arquette and Cox, the latter have yet to be identified -- until now. Inside you'll learn who's playing who in Dimension Films' first film in a new trilogy (penned once again by Kevin Williamson) arriving in theaters April 15, 2011.
"Emma Roberts will play Jill Kessler, “one of the film’s primary heroines,” a cousin to Neve Campbell’s character in the series. Described as “pretty in an ingenue way. Smart, strong. A little goofy, but she makes it sexy. Full of contradictions, but instantly likeable. Not a mean bone in her body. They’re not close, but Jill is Sidney’s cousin.”
Hayden Panettiere will play Jill’s best friend, Kirby Reed — a nerdy film geek. Described as “Cute and quirky, was a tomboy until a year ago, now she’s alternative, cool and sexy. Jill’s best friend. She’s a pop culture and horror aficionado;”
Rory Culkin will play Charlie Walker, a potential love interest for Jill. Here is the character description: “Messy cute. Friends with Jill, Trevor, Kirby, and Olivia. A little cocky, he likens himself to ‘Randy’ from Scream 1 without the nerd part. No such luck, he’s definitely a nerd. May or may not have a crush on Jill. He’d never admit it if he does;”
Lake Bell will play Duputy Judy Hicks, a police officer who knew Sidney (Campbell) from high school. The casting call described the character as follows: “A police officer, decidedly sexy but a bit off, she knew Sidney from high school. Didn’t make a big enough impression for Sidney to remember her. Likes her boss, Dewey, perhaps a little too much. NAME CAMEOS PREFERRED;”"

TV: Frank Darabont Directing Only the Pilot Episode of 'The Walking Dead'... For Now
A little clarification about AMC's forthcoming The Walking Dead TV series. Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that Frank Darabont will only be directing the pilot episode of the first season, although he could end up behind the camera more down the line. If the series gets picked up beyond the ordered 6 episodes you may see him direct a few more. Although, he will be on set during much of the filming, which is now taking place in Atlanta, GA for premiere this coming October. Jon Bernthal, Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, and Michael Rooker all star in the adaptation that is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live. Check out the first zombie images posted last week. Robert Kirkman's incredible comic series is available via Image Comics.
When Nimrod Antal's Predators arrives in theaters on July 9 we've got confirmation that you'll see a minimum of 3 new Predators in action. One of the cooler ones has been given a vary of names, most notably "Super Black Predator". Well, Sideshow teased today a new life-sized prop replica from the Robert Rodriguez produced pic simply titled "Mr. Black Mask" -- and it's effin' awesome. I can't wait to see Brian Steele and Derek Mears in action next month. In this version, a group of humans will find themselves stranded on a planet home to Predators and must survive the horrors they encounter.
Breck Eisner Adapting Vamp Comic 'Blood of the Innocent'
This past week Fearnet spoke with comic book creator Mark Wheatley ("Frankenstein Mobster," "Breathtaker"), who told them that Breck Eisner (The Crazies) is actively working on an adaptation of Wheatley's Dracula comic Blood of the Innocent, co-written by writer Rickey Shanklin, with art by Marc Hempel and Wheatley. "He's trying to make "Blood of the Innocent" the picture he does after Escape [From New York]," Wheatley explains. "The writer, Bill Marsilii, has been working on the pitch now for almost a year. But Breck came on board, I think, back in February." The story is simple: "It's Dracula versus Jack the Ripper...That's it. That's the whole concept."
Genre writer Sean Hood (Cube 2: Hypercube, Halloween: Resurrection) has been tapped to pen The Haunting in New York, which follows on the heels of last year's The Haunting in Connecticut and the soon-to-lens The Haunting in Georgia. Gold Circle is keeping the logline of the latest installment under wraps but said it will be based on a true story like the other two films (read inside for more). Hood posted an update to his blog this morning and added a few details. Haunting in Connecticut earned $77 million worldwide and spawned Haunting in Georgia, which Tom Elkins will begin helming in August. Gold Circle noted that neither Georgia nor New York are sequels to Connecticut and instead are self-contained films with unique characters.
We original posted last year that Haunting in New York is based on the life rights to "A Haunting: The Diabolical," a TV documentary that ran in 2006 on the Discovery Channel. "The Diabolical" was the second episode in the second season on the ongoing series.
"Marie's daughter suffers from a mental condition that keeps her from speaking. During the three years they've lived in their home, Marie has witnessed her communicating with someone she could not see. Marie was unworried, having decided it was positive angels. But upon his first visit, Marie's boyfriend, Chris, feels a dark presence in the house. Using a Ouija board, the two unintentionally open up the home to a diabolical that is using Julie as a portal. A team of paranormal investigators soon decide the case is more serious than they can handle and arrange with the Church for an exorcism."
Update: 'Texas Chainsaw' Director Thanks the Gods for Possible 'Clash' Directing Gig
Update: Dan Mazeau, who worked for Warners on "The Flash", is being paired with David Leslie Johnson, writer of "The Girl with the Red Riding Hood," the studio’s horror thriller starring Amanda Seyfried that is in pre-production, to write "Clash of the Titans 2."" With the fake 3-D remake of Clash of the Titans nearing $500 million worldwide at the box office, Warner Bros. Pictures is fast-tracking a sequel with plans on shooting as early at January, reports the LA Times. It was already revealed that Louis Leterrier would not be returning to the director's chair (thank the Gods (pun intended)), not the LA Times is writing that the frontrunner replacement is none other than Jonathan Liebesman, the man behind Darkness Falls, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and the forthcoming Battle: Los Angeles. Shooting in early 2011 is also a priority because the studio needs to make sure star Sam Worthington, who is committed to shoot Avatar 2 (likely later in the year), is free and clear. Hopefully they actually shoot it in 3-D this time (or not at all).
TV: Michael Rooker Becomes One of 'The Walking Dead'!
Henry: Portrait of a Serial killer star Michael Rooker's career is still booming. After starring in James Gunn's horror comedy SLiTHER a few years back, he has since landed the leading role in Dark Sky Films' Hypothermia and now AMC TV's highly anticipated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series The Walking Dead. Rooker writes on his Twitter, "on my way to Atlanta soon to work with my new best friend Frank Darabont on 'The Walking Dead.'" Consider that confirmed. He joins the previously announced Jon Bernthal, Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, and Steven Yeun in the project set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.

Universal Pictures to Animate Dark Horse Comics' 'Dreadful Ed' and 'Mary Scary'
Dark Horse Entertainment is teaming with Universal Pictures to develop an animated franchise based on two of their comics: Dreadful Ed, and it's sequel Mary Scary. There's no word on what kind of animation it will be, but we know that this is very early in development. With the explosion of 3-D, it appears to make sense to develop an animated feature (especially after the success this summer; i.e. Shrek). You can get details on both comics by reading below.
DREADFUL ED
Follows Dreadful Ed, a very normal, nice human boy who winds up as heir to the throne of the nightmare world of Nocturnia after the Boogeyman Silas Grimm and his wife, needing a male heir, switch him out with their baby girl. As Ed gets older, Silas fears his gentle, unspooky son will never have what it takes to rule the land of nightmares and dark deeds. But rather than give up on his only heir, Silas ships Ed off to fright school, hoping his woefully un-strange little boy will learn the skills befitting of the next Boogeyman. Instead, Ed ends up learning something about himself that will shock everyone- that is except the mother who switched him at birth.
Based on the Dark Horse comics by Andrew Cosby and Troy Nixey.
MARY SCARY
Sequel to DREADFUL ED. Mary Scary is the weird baby girl who was swapped out for Ed when her parents, the Boogeyman and his wife, needed a male heir for their spooky kingdom. Mary has always been different from the rest of her peers. Maybe it's the spider on her head, maybe it's the snake around her neck... but something about her makes everything about her weird! And just when it really starts to bother her that everyone seems to notice how different she is, she meets someone who might be able to help her be less scary - a very normal boy named Ed.

An official Facebook page has been launched for Zebediah de Soto's Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D, his 3-D animated "prequel" starring Jesse Corti, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley, Joe Pilato, Alona Tal, Cornell Womack, and Tony Todd. The pic inspired by George A. Romero's groundbreaking zombie film a group of townspeople seeking refuge in an old farmhouse from undead brain-eaters. Check out a longer synopsis below.
"New York, a city of the hopes and dreams for many Americans, lies in ruin. The streets and skyscrapers that symbolized the strength and prosperity of a people have become places of horror and despair. The cultural hub of the western world is now home to only ash and blood. For the few people left alive there is only one dream – Survival. Zombies, the living dead, have taken the city. Ben (Tony Todd) and Barbra (Danielle Harris) find themselves trapped and fighting to escape the hordes of undead that walk the streets"
Since Ghost of Mars (all the way back in 2001), there have been a lot of announcements about John Carpenter directing this or that film, many of which still haven't materialized. But hopefully that won't be the case for Fangland, which Carpenter will direct based on a Mark Wheaton script, adapted from the novel by John Marks. It's a shame Carpenter doesn't write his own stuff anymore, but 1998's Vampires was also based on a book, and while it's not exactly one of his best films, it IS one of his most successful (apart from the mega-budget dud Escape From LA, it was his highest grossing film since 1984's Starman), so hopefully he'll find the same success here. And with The Ward in the final stages of post production, this could mean back to back Carpenter films for the first time since the mid 90s! Read on for a few story details, courtesy of Variety.
Via Variety:
John Carpenter has signed on to direct "Fangland," an updated version of Bram Stoker's Dracula set up with DAS Films and Blumhouse Prods.
Sriram Das and Jason Blum are producing. Tracy Underwood's also involved in a producing capacity.
"Fangland" is based on the 2007 novel by former "60 Minutes" producer John Marks. It's centered on a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula.

New 'Buried' Poster
In a wonderful homage to Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo Lionsgate has released this simply remarkable one sheet for Rodrigo Cortes' Buried, the Ryan Reynolds starrer getting a limited release on September 24 before going wide on October 8. Reynolds plays a U.S. contractor working in Iraq awakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it's a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.
While we're still unsure if it's going to be a horror project, it is coming from Hammer Films. It was announced today that Hammer picked up Wake, a spec script by Chris Borrelli, with Kasper Barfoed attached to direct. The project has franchise aspirations and has been a described as a Transporter-style story. Borrelli is a "Black List" writer who first popped up with the supernatural thriller spec Whisper, produced by Universal/Gold Circle in 2007. Last summer his spec The Vatican Tapes sold in a bidding war to Lionsgate and Lakeshore. Barfoed is a Danish filmmaker best known for 2008's Kandidaten (The Candidate), which is getting remade as a Sam Worthington vehicle.

New REC 2 Featurette
Today Magnolia Pictures released a little featurette about REC 2. It doesn't feature much in terms of new footage and consists mainly of a dude talking about how great the movie is. But he does give some insight into what exactly is going to go on in the film. Check it out below.
[REC] 2 picks up 15 minutes from where we left off, taking us back into the quarantined apartment building where a terrifying virus has run rampant, turning the occupants into mindlessly violent, raging beasts. A heavily armed SWAT team and a mysterious government official are sent in to assess and attempt to neutralize the situation. What they find inside lies beyond the scope of medical science—a demonic nightmare of biblical proportions more terrifying than they could have possibly imagined. Above all it must be contained, before it escapes to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting world outside.
The new television promo for Haven, a series shepherded by Stephen King. But it appears "dark and ominous" have left town, too. This looks frivolous and light. Quirky? Probably. Either way, it doesn't look all too scary, but I could just be succumbing to a knee-jerk reaction. The series starts Friday, July 9 and stars Emily Rose (not that Emily Rose who was exorcised) as an FBI agent Audrey Parker who's drawn into the town of Haven where the residents each have their own supernatural abilities.
It would seem more apropos to hear about Godzilla stomping around the Santa Monica shoreline, but his hirsute adversary King Kong was reportedly on the beach making his way toward Universal Studios Hollywood. You'll find photos and video below.
Of course, this is another brilliant marketing gag for the new King Kong 360 3D attraction that's opening up at the theme park next month. This comes in the wake of Kong's destruction of Dodger's Statium.

Behind-the-Scenes of 'Monsters' with Director Gareth Edwards
One of the most talked about films at this past March's SXSW Film Festival was Gareth Edwards' Monsters, a sci-fi drama with horror elements that begins six years after a NASA probe crashes, bringing alien life forms to Earth. A journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border. New Use for a Flare Executed in First 'REC 2' Clipage
While Sony Home Entertainment dumped REC on DVD (not even Blu-ray), Magnet is giving Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's high octane Spanish-language sequel REC 2 an HD VOD release on June 4th followed by a limited theatrical run (the best way to see it) on July 9. Gearing up for the release, inside you'll find the first clip that features a possessed/infected attack and the host's fiery death via police flare. Visit the film's official website for more.
"The highly anticipated sequel to one of the scariest films of all time, [REC] 2 picks up 15 minutes from where we left off, taking us back into the quarantined apartment building where a terrifying virus has run rampant, turning the occupants into mindlessly violent, raging beasts. A heavily armed SWAT team and a mysterious government official are sent in to assess and attempt to neutralize the situation. What they find inside lies beyond the scope of medical science—a demonic nightmare of biblical proportions more terrifying than they could have possibly imagined. Above all it must be contained, before it escapes to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting world outside."
