Candyman

Helen Lyle is a graduate student conducting research for her thesis on urban legends. While interviewing freshmen about their superstitions, she hears about a local legend known as Candyman, the son of a slave who was brutally tortured and murdered because of a love affair with the daughter of a local (white) plantation owner. According to the legend, anyone who looks into a mirror and chants his name five times will summon him, but at the cost of his or her own life. Thinking this is just the new spin she has been looking for, Helen enters the notorious gang-ridden territory known as the Cabrini-Green housing projects (the site of Candyman's brutal murder). Helen believes that Candyman cannot exist, but when she calls him into our world a string of murders begins and the police look to her as the primary suspect. Now, only one person can set her free: Helen must fight Candyman to save her own life and those of others

Annie Wilkes "Misery'

Annie Wilkes is a cunning, brutal and dangerously disturbed woman who hides her psychosis behind a cheery facade. In the novel, she frequently maims herself during her bouts with depression. She has an unhealthy obsession with romance novels, particularly Sheldon's Misery series. She often has difficulty in differentiating between these novels and reality. She is also intensely (almost fanatically) religious.

She abhors profanity, to the point that she will fly into fits of rage if it is used in front of her. She instead expresses anger with childishly strange words and phrases like "cockadoodie," "dirty bird," "dirty birdie," "oogie," and "rooty-patooties." In the novel, however, she lets more conventional profanities slip on occasion. Also, in both the novel and the film, she calls Sheldon a "lying cocksucker" after he burns the manuscript to Misery's Return.
Incurably paranoid and depressed, she thinks everyone is persecuting her and frequently has unexpectedly violent tantrums over insignificant matters. For instance, when Paul complains that the paper she originally bought him is smudge-prone, she hits his still-healing knee (with her bare hands in the novel and with the packet of paper in the movie).

The House on Haunted Hill

Six strangers have the chance to make $1,000,000 EACH. All they have to do is make it through the night alive. Institute for the Criminally Insane, where mass-murders were committed in the past. The head of the facility, Dr Richard B. Vannacutt (Jeffrey Combs), performed grotesque experiments and medical procedures on the patients, killing many of them in the process. The hospital was shut down when many of the so-called "patients" escaped, killing almost the entire staff and burning the hospital. Vannacutt had rigged the building with numerous iron gates activated by cranks and levers to serve as barriers to keep patients from leaving the building, should they escape. Some of these barriers are subject to huge clock-like timers that would not open for twelve hours. During the fire, he released these gates keeping the inmates, employees and the fire itself contained. After several unexplained deaths during reconstruction on the house, it was dubbed The House on Haunted Hill.
